Yokohama City offers the following services tailored to the individual needs of parents/guardians and children.

●Ninka hoikusho (certified day-care centers) and other temporary day-care services

These child-care services are available for parents/guardians who need someone to look after their child on a temporary basis due to part-time jobs, illness or other such circumstances; for parents/guardians who need some time for themselves; and so forth.

★Eligibility: children who are not participating in any of (1) through (5) listed below
★Application: by facility Cost: ¥160–¥300 per hour

 

(1) Kateiteki hoiku jigyo (home-style day-care services)

Members of the Yokohama City–certified home childcare and welfare staff provide day-care services for children in their homes and similar settings.
    ★Availability (hours): varies by facility
    ★Eligibility: children age 0–2
    ★Application: at your assigned ward office
    ★Cost: ranges from free to ¥58,100 per month

 

(2) Shokibo hoiku jigyo(small-group day-care services)
These consist of more individually focused day-care services in relatively small day-care groups, which are limited in size to between 6 and 19 children.
    ★Availability (hours): varies by facility
    ★Eligibility: children age 0–2
    ★Application: at your assigned ward office
    ★Cost: ranges from free to ¥58,100 per month


(3) Yokohama hoikushitsu(Yokohama day-care rooms)
These are unique day-care facilities officially certified by Yokohama City.
    ★Availability(hours): 7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.(some facilities offer extended hours)
    ★Eligibility: children age 0–2(some facilities accept children age 3 and up)
    ★Application: by facility
    ★Cost: ranges from free to ¥58,100 per month(different for each facility)

 

(4) Certified kodomo-en
Kodomo-en facilities offer the advantages of both kindergartens and certified day-care centers. Some of their greatest benefits include acceptance of children regardless of whether or not their parents/guardians are employed, and the opportunity for children to continue attending the same kodomo-en even if their parent's or guardian's employment situation changes.
    ★Availability (hours): 7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.(extended hours available)
    ★Eligibility: children age 0–5(some facilities only accept children age 3 and up)
    ★Application: by facility for kindergarten-related services, and at your assigned ward office for day-care-related services
   ★ Cost: ranges from free to ¥58,100 per month

 

(5) Ninka hoikusho (certified day-care centers)
Established based on the Child Welfare Act, these facilities provide child-care services in place of the parent/guardian if the latter is able to look after their child at home due to work, illness, etc.
    ★Availability (hours): 7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m.(extended hours available)
    ★Eligibility: children age 0–5 (varies by facility)
    ★Application: at your assigned ward office
    ★Cost: ranges from free to ¥58,100 per month

 

●Yochien (kindergartens)
These facilities are established based on the School Education Law with the aim of encouraging the growth and development of small children's bodies and minds in a suitable environment.
★Availability (hours): generally from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (some kindergartens are open until the late afternoon / early evening)
★Eligibility: children age 3 and up
★Application: by facility
★Cost: varies by facility

 


●Yokohama-shi azukari hoiku-yochien (Yokohama combined day-care center / kindergarten facilities)
 Extended-hour child care is available at Yokohama City–certified azukari hoiku-yochien combined day-care center and kindergarten facilities.
★Availability (hours): 7:30 a.m.–6:30 p.m. (including summer break and other long-term holidays)
★Eligibility: children age 3 and up Application: by facility
★Cost: maximum of ¥9,000 in addition to standard kindergarten costs

 

●Nyuyoji ichiji azukari jigyo (temporary child care for infants)
Temporary child care is available at certain non-certified day-care centers regardless of the parent's or guardian's reason for requesting such services.
★Availability (hours): varies by facility
★Eligibility: children who are at least 57 days old and not yet attending school
★Application: by facility Cost: ¥300 per hour 

 

●Yokohama child-rearing support system
Persons who need someone to look after their child and persons who look after such children register as members in this system and offer child-rearing support based on ties of mutual responsibility and trust.
★Cost: ¥800–¥900 per hour*


●Child care for weekends/holidays, when your child is sick, etc.
This service is available to parents/guardians who, due to their job, important life events such as weddings and funerals, or other such reasons, need someone to look after their child on a weekend/holiday, when their child is sick, etc. Advanced registration and reservation is
required to use this service.
★Day care on weekends and national holidays  Cost: ¥230–¥420 per hour*
★Day care for sick children  Cost: ¥2,000 per day
★Day care during recovery period following illness/injury  Cost: ¥2,000 per day


●Places where parents and children can spend time together
These serve as venues for parents and children to engage in interpersonal exchanges, exchange information, consult others on child-rearing issues, interact with other kindergarten students, etc. As part of child-rearing activities, both parents and children can enjoy playing and spending time together in these safe and secure environments.


● Chiiki kosodate shien kyoten (regional child-rearing support centers)

 

● Oya-to-ko no tsudoi no hiroba (gathering places for parents and children)

 

● Shiritsu yochien hamakko hiroba (Hamakko Hiroba private kindergartens)

 

● Ikuji shien sentaa-en (child-rearing support center nursery schools) and hoikusho kosodate hiroba shiritsu josetsuen(private day-care center and child-rearing facilities)
